For snug heirlooms and rings that no longer sit comfortably. We size the shank the right way, at the bench, after we have looked at the metal and the stones with you.
Up or downWe add metal to size up, or cut from the thinnest part of the shank to size down.
Stones firstStones that cannot take the heat come out before any cut. The rest are checked again after polish.
The metalGold, sterling, and platinum each behave differently under the torch. The quote is for the ring in front of you.
The fitFor snug heirlooms and rings that no longer sit comfortably. We size the shank after we have looked at the metal and the stones with you.Imagine slipping on a ring that finally fits just right, after it has been too tight for years. That is the work. We treat every piece like it is our own.
Stretching or tapping a ring just spreads the metal and makes it thinner. It pulls from the weakest point, and it can loosen stones. The only time a solid band should be stretched is if it has never been worked, and even then only a maximum of one size.
To size a ring we clean it first. Lotion or skin oils can burn into the metal when heat is applied. The shank is cut with a jeweler's saw. Sizing up means adding metal. Sizing down means removing metal from the worn back of the shank. Then the join is soldered, stones are reset or checked, and the whole piece is polished.

Sterling conducts heat through the whole piece, so most stones have to come out. Gold is the more straightforward metal to work. Platinum is harder to reshape and more expensive to work.
It depends on the ring, so you get a quote once we have seen it.
